News 2017 ...

Successful Family Fun Day.

On the May Bank Holiday Monday, the lodge held it's annual Family Fun Day in the lodge premises.

Despite the less than sunny weather, the fun day was well attended by the members of 524 and a total of £364.74 was raised for our annual charity Beatson Lanarkshire.

A big thank you to all those who attended and also to those who contributed in any way at all, it was greatly appreciated.

Annual Burns Supper, Friday 28th January.

The Brethren, family and friends of 524 enjoyed another fantastic Burns Supper on Friday 28th January. There were superb toasts from Billy Elliot, Tom Jarvie, Jim Campbell and a reply on behalf of the Lassies from Lynn Campbell. After the dinner and the speeches, we were entertained and danced away to Stevie Clark to the end of the night. As usual Laura and the girls supplied us with an excellent meal and a great night was had by all.

Successful visit to Lodge Loch Lochindaal in Islay.

In the last weekend of April, the brethren of 524 visited Lodge Lochindaal 1592 in Islay, where we gave a demostration of the walkthrough FC degree. During the day, a number of the brethren played golf at the Machrie Links, while the rest visited and enjoyed a couple of drams at The Bowmore distillery. The lodge was accompanied by the PGM and the PGL Secretary. Overall, it was a successful visit to Islay and 524 would like to thank the brethren of 1592 for their invite and warm hospitality.

"East Meets West of The Province" Degree

A total of 9 brethren from 524, attended the recent 2nd annual "East meets West of The Province" Degree, hosted by Lodge The Royal Stuart 1414. An excellent rendition of the EA degree was carried out by the reigning masters of the province, including our own RWM.

As the first edition of this degree was held last year at 524 and was established by Bro. Ian Bell PM, it was intimated that in future years that this degree will be known as the "Ian Bell Memorial Degree on behalf of Marcus Humphrey House" - which is a wonderful gesture by the PGL.

A total of £631 was raised in total for the Marcus Humphrey House.

A report of this degree can be found on the PGL website by clicking here.

Visit To Lodge Oban Commerical 180.

The Lodge recently visited Lodge Oban Commerical where we carried out an demostration of the walkthrough FC degree. The degree went well and was well received by the brethren asembled.

A meal and harmony followed after the meeting, and the brethren of 180 showed their generosity by donating the collection to our charity, the Beatson Lanarkshire.

Again an excellent and enjoyable visit to Oban and would to thank 180 for their invite and excellent hospitality.

All in a great night, and we managed to raise £390 to add to our charity pot. A big thank you to all those who came along and supported the event.

Annual Installation 2015

On Saturday 12th December the lodge held its 143rd Annual Installation of Office Bearers. It was held in the Old Parish Church Hall at the usual time of 3.55pm (524).

There was representation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Renfrewshire East headed by Bro Iain McPhee RWSPGM. There was also a deputation of Reigning Masters headed by Bro Allan Gowans, RWM of Lodge Hamilton Kilwinning No 7 and a number of visitors from within and out with the province. I noted two brethren who had travelled from Lodge Innellan and Toward No 1435 in Dunoon.

Bro William John McJimpsey was once again installed as RWM by two very capable Installing Masters, Bro Robert Cook and Bro Graham Wyllie both Past Masters of the Lodge. As this was Bro Willies fourth time in the chair there was no installing board, the RWM was presented with his regalia in open Lodge by Bro Iain McPhee.

The Installing Masters are to be congratulated for all the work they put in over the last few months, well done to Bobby and Graham. It was a very well organised day mainly down the brethren’s hard work setting up the hall in the morning and clearing it immediately after the Installation finished.

We then retired back to the Lodge for the formal meal and speeches. Later in the evening we were joined by the ladies and entertained by a live singer into the wee small hours. So all together it was a very successful day for the brethren, family and friends of 524.
