Lodge Charity Night 2013
The brethren of Lodge St Andrew were joined by family and friends at this year’s annual charity dance which took place in the lodge premises on Friday 11th October. RWM Bro. Graham Wyllie presented a cheque for £500 to Christine Anderson from the local Boys Brigade, and a cheque for £3,850 to Elma McGowan from RNIB. The total amount of £4,350 raised for this year’s charities is the culmination of a number of events that have helped to contribute to the overall sum. Thanks go to everyone who donated gifts and worked tirelessly over the last year, thanks must also go to the ‘green’ team for helping out on the night.
Charity Event - Bag Packing
On Saturday 17th August, a group of brethren, family and friends undertook a bag packing session at the Sainsbury’s store in Kingsgate, raising a total of £1047.47 for this year’s charity funds, thanks go to all those that took part, and to the staff at Sainsbury’s for allowing us to collect in their store.
Sponsored Walk 2013
Approximately 40 brethren, family and friends walked 8 miles around the scenic Whitelee Windfarm near Eaglesham on Sunday 4th August 2013, raising money for this year’s charity funds. The walkers comprised all age groups and fortunately the weather was very pleasant meaning that everyone really enjoyed the experience. Afterwards, the walkers enjoyed a lovely lunch back at the recently refurbished hall, and were in good voice during the afternoon’s Karaoke session! Thanks go to everyone that took part on the day and for the continuing support towards the lodge’s chosen charities.
Whilst the lodge may have been in recess over the summer, the hard working brethren of 524 took the opportunity of refurbishing the lodge’s hall and special thanks must go to Robert Domican who painted the ceiling single handedly in baking hot conditions. Thanks also to Symon Leslie for arranging the scaffolding, Graham Duncan for the new radiator grilles, Billy Elliott for the electrical work and to all the others who helped out over the week long exercise. The hall has been completely transformed, having been painted from top to bottom, a new floor and carpets fitted, new radiator grilles and seat upholstery completed. The next project will see the west wall mural being enhanced, and further minor improvements to the premises are planned over the next few weeks.

The RWM of Lodge St Andrew East Kilbride kept up the recent 524 tradition of attending and participating in the annual Lodge St Andrew gathering, which saw St Andrew brethren attend Lodge Cumbernauld St Andrew 199 on Saturday 6th April 2013 in the masonic temple in the village of Cumbernauld for the meeting. Lodges from as far afield as Banff and Annan were represented and 20 St Andrew lodges in total carried out a EA degree in front of over 170 brethren from all over Scotland. Afterwards, those attending enjoyed lodge hospitality and harmony and fraternal greetings were exchanged by all those present. New relationships were formed and old ones rekindled and I’m sure that the visiting 524 brethren will be keen on attending the 2014 event which is due to be held within the masonic temple in Banff – watch this space for further details

Those present enjoyed a 4 course meal, live entertainment by Bro. Ian Wylie and his band ‘Pipedream’, and thanks must go to PM Bro. Billy Elliott for organising the event, and to the staff at the Bruce Hotel for providing such excellent food and service. The raffle was very well supported and thanks go to Bro.
